Lexington, KY (August 19, 2025) – A Saturday night crash in Lexington sent three people to the hospital and led to serious charges against a 17-year-old driver, who police say was under the influence at the time of the incident.
The collision occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Nicholasville Road near Canary Road. According to investigators, the teenager was behind the wheel of one of three vehicles involved in the wreck. One of the injured suffered life-threatening wounds, while the other two were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Police confirmed that just moments before the crash, the teen had fled the scene of a non-injury hit-and-run nearby. The series of events quickly escalated, resulting in a violent impact that required emergency medical response and traffic control.
The young driver now faces charges including DUI, first-degree assault, and leaving the scene of an accident. Officials say their Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the incident.
Alcohol-Related Collisions Among Teens in Lexington
Crashes involving impaired teen drivers are a growing concern throughout Lexington and across the state. Incidents like Saturday’s on Nicholasville Road highlight just how rapidly a dangerous decision can turn into a life-altering event for multiple families.
Teenage drivers already face higher crash risks due to inexperience behind the wheel. When alcohol or drugs are introduced into the equation, the danger compounds, often resulting in devastating outcomes. Speeding, failure to yield, and fleeing crash scenes are all more likely when a driver is impaired.
This case marks at least the third recent crash in the area where alcohol is believed to be a factor. Community efforts continue to push for better education and stronger consequences around impaired driving, especially involving young drivers.
