Lexington, KY (August 4, 2025) – A woman was killed on Sunday afternoon in a crash involving an impaired driver at the intersection of Man o’ War Blvd and Belleau Wood Dr, according to the Lexington Police Department. The collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. and resulted in the death of 75-year-old Linda Johnson.
Police say Johnson was transported to a local hospital following the crash, where she was later pronounced dead. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office confirmed her identity and noted that the official cause and manner of death will be determined after a scheduled autopsy on Tuesday.
Authorities arrested 65-year-old Stephen Barber at the scene. He now faces charges of driving under the influence (DUI). While police confirmed the arrest, Barber does not currently appear in the Fayette County Detention Center inmate log. Additional charges may follow pending the results of the ongoing investigation.
The area around the crash site was temporarily closed as officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. The collision brought traffic to a standstill in one of Lexington’s busiest corridors, especially during the evening hours.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Linda Johnson during this time of grief.
DUI-Related Fatal Crashes in Fayette County
The crash that claimed the life of Linda Johnson on Sunday is a sobering reminder of the irreversible consequences of impaired driving. Man o’ War Blvd is one of Lexington’s most heavily traveled roadways, connecting residential neighborhoods, shopping centers, and major intersections. Crashes in this area, especially those involving impaired drivers, often have devastating outcomes.
In Kentucky, driving under the influence remains one of the leading causes of fatal traffic accidents. When alcohol or drugs impair a driver’s judgment and reaction time, even a momentary lapse can prove deadly. In this case, the arrest of Stephen Barber highlights the serious legal and ethical consequences that follow such a choice.
Victims of DUI crashes, like Linda Johnson, are often completely unprepared for the sudden violence of these incidents. Families are left to process the trauma, seek answers, and manage the emotional and financial fallout. Legal proceedings may offer a form of accountability, but they can never reverse the damage caused.
For families affected by fatal DUI crashes, accessing timely legal support, medical documentation, and investigative updates is critical. These tools help loved ones pursue justice and find closure in the wake of an unimaginable loss.
