Lincoln County, MO (August 4, 2025) – A 63-year-old man from Foristell sustained serious injuries on Saturday afternoon after the motorcycle he was operating collided with the rear of a car on MO-47, just east of Blue Goose Road, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. and involved a 2007 Harley-Davidson Fatboy and a 2009 Ford Mustang, both traveling westbound. According to the incident report, the motorcycle struck the rear of the Mustang. The impact left the motorcycle with total damage and required it to be towed from the scene. The Mustang sustained moderate damage and was driven away.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet or other safety equipment, suffered serious injuries and was transported by Lincoln County EMS to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for emergency treatment. The 68-year-old male driver of the Mustang, a resident of Troy, MO, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Troopers, including MSGT. A.J. Mayer and TPR. S.T. Brunger responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation.

We extend our best wishes to the injured rider for a full and swift recovery.

Rear-End Motorcycle Accidents in Missouri

Crashes involving motorcycles and passenger vehicles often result in severe injuries, particularly for riders who are not using proper safety gear. In this case, a rear-end collision left a 63-year-old motorcyclist with serious trauma, underscoring the risks riders face when following traffic too closely or reacting too late to sudden stops.

Unlike occupants of cars, motorcyclists have little protection in a crash. Rear-end impacts, especially at moderate to high speeds, frequently result in ejections, fractures, and head injuries, risks that are compounded when helmets or other protective gear are not worn. Missouri law allows adult riders over age 26 with proper health coverage to ride without a helmet, but medical outcomes can be significantly worse in those cases.

MO-47 in Lincoln County includes stretches of open rural road with varying speeds and limited shoulder space. Traffic conditions can shift quickly, making it crucial for all drivers, especially motorcyclists, to maintain safe distances and remain alert.

For victims, the aftermath of a motorcycle crash often involves long recovery periods, high medical costs, and legal challenges related to fault and compensation. Understanding your rights and responsibilities is essential, and timely support from professionals can help you navigate this process with confidence.
