Lindale, TX – Woman Killed in Mobile Home Fire on FM 14

September 5, 2025

Lindale, TX (September 5, 2025) – A tragic mobile home fire early Thursday morning claimed the life of a local woman in Lindale. Emergency crews were dispatched to 19984 FM 14 around 4:20 a.m.

According to officials from the Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office, the 911 call was placed by the homeowner herself, reporting that her mobile home was ablaze. Firefighters from Red Springs, Winona, and Lindale Fire Departments responded to the call, working together in an attempt to rescue the resident.

Despite valiant rescue efforts, crews later discovered the body of the occupant inside the mobile home. She has been identified as 67-year-old Sherry Denise Jones. Authorities have confirmed that no other individuals were believed to be inside at the time of the fire.

Smith County Emergency Services District 2 confirmed that an autopsy has been ordered. The investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing and is being led by Smith County Fire Marshal Chad Hogue.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Ms. Jones during this devastating time.

Fatal Residential Fires in Texas

Residential fires, particularly those involving mobile homes, continue to pose significant risks across rural and suburban areas of Texas. The heartbreaking loss of Sherry Denise Jones in this Lindale fire is a sobering reminder of how quickly fire can become deadly — often within minutes of ignition.

Mobile homes are particularly vulnerable due to their structural materials and often limited fire barriers. In this case, fire crews reported heavy flames on arrival, indicating how rapidly the blaze spread. The involvement of three separate fire departments reflects both the scale of the fire and the urgency of the situation.

Early morning fires like this one, occurring when residents are likely to be asleep, can be especially dangerous. Smoke inhalation and heat exposure during these hours leave little room for escape, which is why working smoke detectors and clear evacuation plans are critical — particularly for older residents.

It’s important for communities like Lindale to focus on fire prevention education, regular safety inspections, and ensuring residents know how to respond when a fire breaks out. As investigators work to determine what caused this deadly blaze, the community must reflect on how to reduce fire risks for all vulnerable households.

Those left grieving from such tragedies often need more than time to heal — they require resources, support, and guidance through the aftermath.
