Linn County, MO (August 8, 2025) – A rear-end collision involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck left one man injured on Wednesday evening on US Highway 36, just two miles west of Meadville. The crash occurred during an attempted passing maneuver and remains under investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The collision happened at approximately 6:33 p.m. on August 7, as a 46-year-old man from Gallatin, MO, was driving a 2003 GMC Sierra eastbound on US 36. Authorities say the driver attempted to overtake a 2017 Peterbilt 389, also traveling eastbound, but struck the rear of the semi during the maneuver.
The impact caused the GMC to sustain total damage. It was towed from the scene by Still’s Towing. The semi, operated by a 58-year-old man from Meadville, received only minor damage and was driven from the scene. Both drivers were reportedly wearing seatbelts.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was transported by Linn County Ambulance to Pershing Memorial Hospital for treatment. The semi driver was not injured.
Trooper Billings, along with the Linn County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department, assisted with the scene and investigation. No citations or charges have been reported at this time.
