Linn County, IA (May 29, 2025) – Two people were injured in a rollover crash Wednesday night on Highway 30 near Old River Rd, close to the Bertram area. The collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. and led to traffic disruption along the westbound lanes of the highway.
According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Lindsey Clemens of Cedar Rapids was driving west on Hwy 30 when she reportedly became distracted and took her eyes off the road. Her vehicle collided with another westbound car, triggering a rollover. Clemens’ car ultimately came to rest on its roof in the middle of the highway.
Clemens sustained minor injuries in the crash. She was cited by law enforcement for failure to maintain control and failure to wear a seatbelt. The driver of the other vehicle involved was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The roadway remained partially blocked while emergency personnel tended to the injured and removed the overturned vehicle. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to the crash.
We send our well-wishes for a swift recovery to both individuals involved in this incident.
Rollover Crashes and Distracted Driving Risks in Iowa
Wednesday night’s rollover crash on Highway 30 serves as a potent reminder of the dangers associated with driver distraction. When attention is diverted from the road—even momentarily—the consequences can be severe, especially at highway speeds. In this case, the crash not only resulted in injuries but also led to a vehicle overturning and significant roadway disruption.
Rollover accidents are often linked to higher vehicle instability, abrupt maneuvering, or secondary impacts following initial collisions. In Iowa, rural and semi-rural highways like Hwy 30 are particularly susceptible to such incidents due to mixed traffic flow, speed transitions, and narrow shoulders.
Distracted driving—whether from cell phone use, reaching for objects, or simply looking away—remains one of the top contributors to serious collisions statewide. Law enforcement agencies continually emphasize the importance of staying alert and maintaining safe following distances, especially in high-speed zones.
While one victim in this crash sustained only minor injuries, the situation could have easily been more tragic. The use of seatbelts, adherence to speed limits, and avoidance of distraction are essential for reducing harm in such scenarios.
Victims of rollover or distraction-related accidents often face physical recovery challenges, time away from work, and the stress of dealing with insurance and legal matters. Fortunately, resources exist to help manage these burdens and get individuals back on the road to recovery.
