Little Compton, RI (August 4, 2025) – A tragic motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon in Little Compton claimed the life of a Tiverton woman. Police say the collision occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Simmons Rd and involved a head-on impact between a motorcycle and a car.
Officers arriving on scene found 29-year-old Tammy Boutilier with critical injuries after the crash. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Authorities confirmed that Boutilier was operating the motorcycle westbound when she lost control and crossed into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with an eastbound vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle, whose identity has not been released, suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene. According to Little Compton Police Chief Scott Raynes, the roadway was closed for approximately three hours as crews investigated and cleared the crash site.
The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Tammy Boutilier during this heartbreaking time.
Motorcycle Fatalities and Roadway Risks in Rhode Island
Motorcycle crashes, especially those involving head-on impacts like Saturday’s incident on Simmons Rd, are often deadly due to the limited protection riders have during a collision. In this case, the preliminary report suggests the rider lost control and entered oncoming traffic—an outcome that may have been influenced by road conditions, mechanical issues, or momentary misjudgment.
Rural roadways in towns like Little Compton can present unique hazards: narrow lanes, curves, and limited shoulder space all contribute to an increased risk of accidents. Even minor miscalculations at moderate speeds can quickly escalate into life-threatening events when motorcycles are involved.
The loss of 29-year-old Tammy Boutilier is a stark reminder of the vulnerability motorcycle riders face and the importance of ongoing safety education, infrastructure maintenance, and awareness by all road users. While investigators work to determine the full cause of this crash, the emotional toll on loved ones is already immense.
For families affected by fatal collisions, the aftermath often includes not only grief but also legal and logistical challenges—from funeral planning and medical costs to insurance disputes and the need for official documentation.
