Lorain, OH (January 1, 2025) – A 48-year-old Lorain woman was hospitalized after being struck by a police cruiser on New Year’s Eve. The collision occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Broadway Ave near the intersection of W 32nd St, according to the Lorain Police Department.
Authorities reported that a city police officer was transporting an arrestee when the pedestrian entered the roadway. Despite the officer’s attempt to swerve to avoid her, the cruiser struck the woman with its front driver’s side. The woman sustained “noticeable injuries” but was described as “alert and aware” when transported to University Hospital in Elyria for treatment.
The Lorain Police Traffic Investigations Bureau, with assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, is conducting a full reconstruction and investigation into the circumstances of the incident. As of now, no charges have been filed.
