Los Angeles, CA (September 20, 2025) – A pedestrian was tragically killed Friday evening after being struck by a Los Angeles Police Department patrol vehicle in the Highland Park neighborhood. The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m., near the intersection of North Figueroa St and Woodside Dr.
According to initial statements from LAPD, the officer involved was responding to a nearby emergency call with the patrol car’s lights and sirens activated. While attempting to bypass traffic in the northbound lanes, the officer entered the center median of the roadway. At that time, a male pedestrian—described as a skateboarder in his late 20s or early 30s—was traveling southbound within the median when he was fatally struck.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries. His identity has not yet been publicly released pending notification of next of kin.
The incident has prompted a full investigation by LAPD’s Multi-Disciplinary Collision Investigation Team (MCIT), which is reviewing body camera footage, vehicle telemetry, and witness accounts to determine how the tragic collision occurred. No further details about potential charges or disciplinary actions have been disclosed at this time.
This heartbreaking incident has raised concerns in the community about emergency response protocols and pedestrian safety along Figueroa St, a corridor known for both heavy vehicle traffic and pedestrian activity.
We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
