Los Angeles, CA (September 1, 2025) – A fatal collision involving multiple vehicles and at least two motorcycles occurred Saturday evening on southbound Interstate 110 just north of W Florence Ave, resulting in the death of one rider. The incident prompted an extended freeway closure and a major response from local authorities and emergency personnel.
The crash was first reported around 7:23 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Preliminary details indicate that two motorcycles collided with several vehicles, including a black Kia, a gray BMW, and a blue Subaru SUV. One motorcyclist was found down in the roadway and later confirmed deceased at the scene.
Witnesses described Good Samaritans attempting to assist the rider before emergency responders arrived. Another rider was seen standing nearby but was not immediately reported as injured. Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the scene and encountered heavy traffic delays en route.
The collision blocked multiple lanes of I-110, including the #1 lane and HOV lane. A full SigAlert was issued for the main portion of the freeway for approximately three hours. Several tow services, including Navarro’s Towing and American Eagle Tow, were dispatched to remove damaged vehicles and collect evidence.
The Los Angeles County Coroner was notified and assigned Case #2025-13855. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased motorcyclist pending family notification. CHP has since reopened the lanes, and the investigation into the cause of the crash remains active.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the motorcyclist who lost their life in this tragic accident.
Multi-Vehicle Motorcycle Collisions in Los Angeles County
Crashes involving motorcycles and multiple vehicles on Southern California freeways are often catastrophic, particularly at high speeds and during high-volume traffic hours. The fatal collision on I-110 near W Florence Ave highlights the vulnerability of motorcyclists in dense traffic situations and the chain-reaction nature of multi-vehicle crashes.
Motorcyclists, even when riding with proper gear, face extreme risk from sudden lane changes, reduced visibility, and high-speed merges—especially in congested corridors like I-110 in Los Angeles. When collisions occur, riders are often ejected or pinned, resulting in severe injuries or fatalities.
In this case, multiple passenger vehicles were involved, and initial reports suggest the motorcycles may have collided with at least two of them. Scenes like these often require hours to fully investigate and document, delaying closure for grieving families and leaving bystanders shaken.
For those who’ve lost a loved one in a motorcycle crash, the road to justice and recovery can be long and emotionally overwhelming. Legal support, insurance navigation, and trauma counseling are often necessary components of the aftermath.
