Los Angeles, CA (August 28, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision on the southbound side of Highway 2 left one person hospitalized Wednesday morning, according to information from the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Fire Department.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:23 a.m. just south of the I-5 interchange—a busy connector area that often sees high-volume traffic. Authorities say a van rear-ended another vehicle under unclear circumstances, prompting a full emergency response.
Los Angeles firefighters responded quickly and were forced to shut down all southbound lanes of the highway as they worked to free one of the drivers from a disabled vehicle. The involved vehicles sustained significant rear-end damage, and rescue crews were observed using extraction tools at the scene.
One individual was transported to Los Angeles General Medical Center for treatment. As of this writing, the extent of the injuries has not been disclosed, and the incident remains under investigation by CHP officers.
We send our best wishes for a smooth and full recovery to the person injured in this incident.
Rear-End Collisions on California Highways
Rear-end crashes like the one reported on Highway 2 near I-5 are among the most common types of vehicle accidents on California’s high-speed corridors. These collisions often happen due to following too closely, sudden braking, distracted driving, or unpredictable lane changes—especially in congested interchanges such as the one connecting Highway 2 and the 5 Freeway.
Victims of rear-end crashes can suffer a wide range of injuries, including whiplash, spinal strain, or head trauma. Even when the vehicle damage seems moderate, the physical effects can be long-lasting—particularly if seatbelts, airbags, or posture during impact contribute to the force of injury.
Emergency lane closures, like the one enacted by LAFD on Wednesday morning, are necessary to ensure the safety of both first responders and motorists. However, they also reflect the seriousness of the collision, especially when vehicle extrication is required.
For injured drivers and passengers, documenting the crash through the official police report and obtaining medical care as soon as possible is essential. These steps not only support physical recovery but also provide critical evidence for insurance and legal claims.
