Los Banos, CA (August 2, 2025) – Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care and managing hazards following a deadly big rig accident that occurred on Friday afternoon on the 5 Freeway near Highway 165 in Los Banos. The crash was reported at approximately 2:18 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities stated that a semi-truck hauling a 48-foot flatbed trailer overturned under unknown circumstances, coming to rest across the roadway. The driver was reportedly pinned beneath the wreckage and tragically pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters.
The incident resulted in significant disruption along I-5 as debris from the truck scattered across traffic lanes. In addition to the structural damage, diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway, prompting a hazardous materials response and extended cleanup efforts.
