Pedestrian Injuries in Downtown Louisville
Downtown intersections like West Market Street and South 4th Street are high-risk areas for pedestrian accidents, especially during early morning hours when lighting is limited and traffic patterns shift between overnight deliveries and commuter traffic.
In Thursday’s crash, a 50-year-old pedestrian suffered injuries consistent with significant force—hip and leg pain are often associated with side impacts or knockdowns. These types of injuries can require lengthy recovery and may result in mobility limitations or ongoing pain.
Local agencies have worked to implement pedestrian safety improvements in central Louisville, including timed crosswalks, curb extensions, and visibility enhancements. However, when drivers fail to yield or become distracted, even marked crossings can become dangerous.
