Madison County, FL (September 8, 2025) – A man from Ocoee tragically lost his life on Saturday afternoon following a violent crash on Interstate 10 in Madison County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal accident occurred just after 1:30 p.m. on September 7 near mile marker 262. Authorities reported that a red Mazda sedan was heading eastbound on I-10 when it struck the back of a trailer being towed by a pickup truck. The impact of the crash caused the trailer—carrying a utility terrain vehicle (UTV)—to detach from the pickup.
Following the collision, both the trailer and UTV overturned and came to rest in the center median. The Mazda then veered onto the south shoulder of the highway, where it overturned as well. The driver, a 32-year-old man from Ocoee, was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. Officials confirmed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Emergency personnel from Madison County EMS and Madison County Fire Rescue responded to the scene, along with deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the Mazda was transported to Madison County Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The occupants of the pickup truck were uninjured.
Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this deadly collision.
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the man who lost his life in this crash.
Fatal Crashes in Florida
This devastating crash on Interstate 10 in Madison County illustrates the deadly consequences that can result from high-speed highway collisions, especially when seatbelt use is not observed. The fact that the driver was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover suggests the force of impact was extreme—highlighting how quickly a routine drive can turn fatal.
Interstate 10, a major east-west corridor across northern Florida, is heavily traveled by both commercial and personal vehicles. Incidents involving trailers and unsecured loads can introduce unexpected dangers to nearby drivers. In this case, the detachment of a trailer and the overturning of both it and the UTV likely contributed to the overall chaos and severity of the crash.
Seatbelt usage continues to be one of the most effective ways to prevent ejection and reduce fatalities in rollover crashes. According to state data, a significant portion of fatal crashes in Florida involve unrestrained drivers or passengers. This incident serves as a painful reminder of the life-saving difference that proper seatbelt use can make.
For families who lose loved ones in tragic roadway incidents like this, the emotional toll is often accompanied by unanswered questions, legal hurdles, and financial strain. Investigations into trailer safety, driver responsibility, and road conditions can take time, but accountability and closure remain critical for grieving families.
