Madison Twp, OH – 14-Year-Old Girl Airlifted After Hit-and-Run on Swans Rd

August 25, 2025

Madison Twp, OH (August 25, 2025) – A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash Saturday afternoon in Licking County. The incident occurred on Swans Rd, north of Loper Rd, and is currently under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to Madison Township Fire Chief Nick Garver, emergency crews were dispatched to the scene following a report of a pedestrian being hit. Upon arrival, first responders found the teenage victim seriously hurt, with no vehicle present at the location.

Due to the severity of her injuries, the girl was airlifted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Her current condition has not been publicly disclosed.

At this time, no information about the suspect vehicle or driver has been released. Authorities are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Our thoughts are with the young victim and her loved ones during this difficult time. We hope for her full and swift recovery.

Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents in Rural Ohio

Pedestrian crashes involving children are among the most traumatic incidents emergency responders face—especially when the driver responsible flees the scene. In rural areas like Madison Township, roads often lack sidewalks, street lighting, or clear pedestrian zones, increasing the risk for those walking near traffic.

When a driver strikes a pedestrian and leaves the scene, the consequences go beyond physical injury. Delayed medical care, limited witness information, and emotional trauma can all worsen the outcome for the victim and their family.

Victims of hit-and-run incidents—particularly minors—face long roads to recovery and often require extensive care, rehabilitation, and emotional support. For families, this is compounded by uncertainty around legal action, medical expenses, and unanswered questions about who was responsible.
