Marion County, FL (September 12, 2025) – A 59-year-old man from Dunnellon tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle crash Thursday evening in Marion County. The incident occurred just after 6:24 p.m. along County Road 225A near NW 110th St, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Troopers reported that the man was driving a pickup truck northbound on CR-225A when the vehicle began to negotiate a left-hand curve. For reasons still under investigation, the truck veered off the roadway, onto the right grass shoulder. It continued over a private driveway and reentered the shoulder before striking an electrical box.
The vehicle then plunged into a grassy ditch, colliding with tree branches before slamming into a standing tree. The force of the impact caused the pickup to rotate and overturn. As the truck flipped onto its roof, the driver was partially ejected through the window on the driver’s side.
The vehicle ultimately came to rest upside down in the grassy ditch, facing east. Marion County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene within minutes and pronounced the driver deceased at 6:37 p.m. According to investigators, the man was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash and whether other factors, such as speed or impairment, played a role.
Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Single-Vehicle Crashes and Rollover Accidents in Florida
Thursday evening’s fatal crash in Marion County underscores the severe consequences that can result from single-vehicle rollovers, particularly on rural Florida roadways. County Road 225A, like many similar routes throughout the region, includes sharp curves, limited lighting, and stretches of open terrain that can quickly become hazardous under the wrong conditions.
In this case, the crash tragically ended with a vehicle overturning in a ditch, highlighting the importance of both roadway design and occupant safety. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reports that a significant percentage of fatal crashes each year involve only one vehicle—often due to roadway departure, overcorrection, or loss of control on curves.
One of the most critical factors in survivability during rollovers is seat belt use. FHP noted in this incident that the driver was not wearing a seat belt, which may have contributed to the severity of the outcome. Ejection or partial ejection from a vehicle drastically increases the likelihood of fatal injuries during a rollover, making seat belt use vital—even on shorter, local drives.
For families affected by such incidents, the aftermath can be emotionally and financially overwhelming. In addition to medical or funeral expenses, there are often questions about insurance claims, liability, and legal procedures. It is important for survivors or next of kin to receive the support they need to navigate these challenges.
