Marion County, FL (September 1, 2025) – A deadly crash in Marion County on Saturday morning claimed the life of a 54-year-old Citrus Springs man and left two others hospitalized, including a young child. The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the two-vehicle collision, which occurred around 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 200 and SW 140th St.
Troopers say a westbound SUV, driven by a 22-year-old woman from Dunnellon, approached the intersection but failed to stop at the posted sign. As a result, she entered the path of a second SUV that was traveling northbound on SR-200, triggering a violent collision.
The driver of the second SUV—identified as a 54-year-old man from Citrus Springs—was seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The woman driving the first SUV was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A 1-year-old girl, who was a passenger in her vehicle, was transported as well, though authorities have not confirmed whether the child was injured.
The intersection was temporarily closed while troopers investigated the crash and emergency medical crews provided care at the scene. An investigation is still ongoing to determine if speed, distraction, or other factors played a role.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man who lost his life in this tragic collision and hope for the full recovery of all those injured.
Intersection Accidents in Florida
This devastating crash at SR-200 and SW 140th St in Marion County highlights a common and often deadly risk on Florida’s roadways: intersection-related collisions. Despite traffic signs and visibility in most rural or semi-rural intersections, a momentary lapse in attention—such as running a stop sign—can result in life-changing or fatal consequences.
State Road 200 is a major corridor running through Central Florida, often connecting commuters between towns like Dunnellon and Ocala. Intersections along this stretch are frequently traveled and not always signalized, making them particularly vulnerable to driver error. In this instance, failure to yield the right-of-way tragically led to the death of a driver and the hospitalization of others, including a child.
These types of crashes often involve high impact due to crossing traffic patterns, and fatalities are not uncommon. In addition to the loss of life, survivors often face prolonged hospital stays, rehabilitation, and emotional trauma. Children involved in crashes may require ongoing observation or specialized care, regardless of visible injury at the scene.
In the aftermath of serious crashes like this, families are left to manage funeral costs, insurance claims, and questions of accountability.
