Marion County, FL (September 1, 2025) – A deadly collision involving two sport utility vehicles occurred Saturday morning at the intersection of State Road 200 and SW 140th Street in Marion County. The crash was reported at approximately 8:43 AM on August 30 and resulted in the death of one man and serious injuries to another driver, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Troopers stated that a 22-year-old woman from Dunnellon was traveling westbound on SW 140th Street when she failed to stop at a posted stop sign. Her SUV entered the intersection and collided with a northbound vehicle on SR-200. The other driver, a 54-year-old man from Citrus Springs, sustained critical injuries in the crash and was later pronounced dead at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital.
The Dunnellon driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. A 1-year-old child who was in her vehicle at the time of the crash was unharmed. All individuals involved were taken to medical facilities for further evaluation. FHP reported that seatbelt usage for both adult drivers remains under investigation.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the man who lost his life, and we wish a full and swift recovery for the injured.
Fatal Intersection Crashes in Florida
Saturday’s deadly crash at the intersection of SR-200 and SW 140th Street reflects the ongoing risks associated with rural and semi-rural intersections throughout Florida. In many such areas, traffic signs—not signals—control major roadway crossings. When drivers fail to stop at these signs, collisions often occur at high speeds, frequently with devastating results.
State Road 200 is a heavily traveled route in Marion County, and intersections like SW 140th Street can be deceptively dangerous. The combination of fast-moving traffic, inconsistent driver behavior, and limited enforcement makes these crossings particularly prone to serious or fatal crashes.
While a young child in the Dunnellon driver’s SUV thankfully escaped injury, the tragic death of the Citrus Springs man and the severe injuries sustained by the woman highlight the urgency of intersection safety. Seatbelt usage, driver attention, and full compliance with posted signage are essential to preventing tragedies like this one.
For families affected by fatal crashes, the aftermath can bring not only grief but legal and financial questions as well. Understanding your rights and accessing the right support can make a meaningful difference during such a painful time.
