Maxatawny Twp, PA (January 11, 2025) – Pennsylvania State Police in Reading have released details about a fatal crash that occurred on Route 222 in Maxatawny Township early Friday morning. The tragic collision involved a Honda CRV and an International Harvester tractor-trailer and claimed the life of a 41-year-old man from Reading.
The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on Kutztown Rd. According to police, the driver of the Honda was traveling northbound on Route 222 and attempted to pass other vehicles by entering the southbound lane. At the same time, the tractor-trailer was heading southbound. The Honda driver reportedly saw the oncoming tractor-trailer and began to slide, but the driver’s side of the vehicle struck the front end of the tractor-trailer.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Berks County Coroner. The name of the deceased has not been released. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not reported to be injured.
The section of Route 222 between PA-737/Krumsville Rd and Long Lane Rd was closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation and cleared the scene. The road was reopened around 9 a.m.
