McHenry, IL (January 16, 2026) – A 64-year-old man lost his life Thursday evening after being hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross Route 120, also known as Elm St, just east of Meadow Ln.
The McHenry Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to the scene around 5:20 p.m. following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located the man unresponsive in the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to early findings, the man had been walking southbound across Elm St when he was struck by an eastbound red 2008 Ford Focus. The impact also caused the Ford to collide with a second eastbound vehicle that had stopped in an attempt to avoid the incident.
Police closed the area to conduct a full crash reconstruction and are continuing their investigation to determine the full sequence of events. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of his family.
