Meriden, CT (August 26, 2025) – A serious three-vehicle crash on Route 15 Northbound near Exit 68 Northeast left three people injured Sunday morning, including one who had to be extricated from a vehicle pinned against a guardrail. The crash occurred just before 9:00 a.m. and caused significant lane closures and delays.
Emergency responders from Meriden Fire and EMS arrived on scene and confirmed one individual had sustained a head injury and was trapped inside their vehicle. Crews performed an emergency extrication to safely remove the patient, who was then transported via advanced life support (ALS) for further treatment. Two additional individuals were transported with less severe injuries under basic life support (BLS) care.
The crash forced the closure of the right and center lanes of Route 15 Northbound as responders worked to clear debris, assist the injured, and investigate the collision. Traffic was diverted during the morning hours until the scene was secured and vehicles were removed.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved, and the exact cause of the crash is under investigation.
We extend our best wishes to all three injured individuals, particularly the patient with the head injury, and hope for their full and speedy recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Collisions and Highway Safety in Connecticut
Sunday’s crash on Route 15 near Meriden is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by multi-vehicle collisions on high-speed highways. When one vehicle is pinned against a guardrail—as seen in this incident—the risk of entrapment and severe injury increases significantly. Head trauma, in particular, can have long-term consequences if not addressed immediately.
Extrications are complex and time-sensitive procedures that require skilled coordination between fire and EMS personnel. In this case, first responders successfully removed the patient while maintaining scene safety and coordinating rapid medical care. ALS transport indicates the presence of potentially life-threatening injuries requiring advanced monitoring and intervention.
With multiple lanes closed, responders also faced the challenge of managing traffic and ensuring the safety of additional motorists. Chain-reaction crashes and secondary collisions are common in these scenarios, especially when visibility or reaction time is limited.
Drivers on Route 15 and other Connecticut highways are urged to maintain safe following distances, avoid distractions, and reduce speed in heavy traffic or near work zones. These proactive steps can make a significant difference in preventing pileups and high-impact crashes.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a multi-car accident involving serious injuries or extrication, it’s critical to seek not only medical care but also legal and recovery support.
