Millsboro, DE (July 30, 2025) – A serious crash Tuesday afternoon in Millsboro left one person injured after a vehicle veered off Route 113 and collided with another car at a gas station near the intersection of Rt 113 and Laurel Rd.
The incident occurred around 3:41 p.m. in the area of the WaWa gas station, where a vehicle reportedly exited the northbound lanes of Rt 113 and struck a second vehicle near the fuel pumps. Emergency crews from Millsboro Fire Company, Sussex County EMS, and Delaware State Police Aviation responded to the scene. Although DSP Trooper 2 was initially dispatched, aviation transport was not ultimately used.
Medics assessed those involved, and one individual was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The extent of the injuries has not been released, but officials confirmed that the patient required additional care beyond what could be provided on-site. The impact caused visible damage near the pump area, prompting temporary closures while responders ensured safety and cleared the scene.
Authorities are still working to determine what caused the initial driver to lose control. Investigators with Delaware State Police have not yet indicated whether speed, impairment, or mechanical issues played a role.
Our thoughts are with the person injured in this crash, and we hope for a smooth and full recovery.
Gas Station Crash Risks in Delaware
Tuesday’s accident at the busy WaWa station in Millsboro underscores a unique yet dangerous type of traffic incident—collisions involving gas pump areas. These crashes not only pose significant injury risks but also present a heightened threat of fire or explosion due to the presence of fuel. Fortunately, in this case, responders quickly secured the scene and averted further hazards.
In Delaware, particularly along commercial corridors like Rt 113, drivers often navigate tightly spaced intersections, heavy turning traffic, and frequent entries to high-volume service stations. Accidents in these environments can be triggered by distracted driving, medical emergencies, or sudden mechanical failure.
The Route 113 and Laurel Rd intersection is a well-trafficked junction that combines highway speeds with rapid commercial access points, creating conditions ripe for serious collisions. Incidents like Tuesday’s highlight the importance of maintaining control near driveways, exits, and gas station entrances—especially during peak traffic hours when visibility is often compromised by surrounding vehicles and signage.
For injured parties, the aftermath of such crashes can be both physically and financially taxing. Recovery may involve medical treatment, time away from work, and dealing with insurance or liability complications—especially when incidents occur on commercial properties.
