Minersville, PA (January 10, 2025) – A serious accident involving two pedestrians occurred on Tuesday morning at the intersection of North St and North Fifth St in Minersville. A 37-year-old woman and her 8-year-old son were struck by a vehicle while walking within a clearly marked crosswalk.
The incident happened at approximately 10:30 AM when Carol Shimsky, 62, of Minersville, was driving a white Toyota RAV4 southbound on North Fifth St. Shimsky reportedly stopped at the stop sign at the intersection before making a left turn onto the 400 block of North St. During the turn, her vehicle struck the mother and son, knocking them to the ground.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals. The boy was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest with a fractured pelvis, while his mother sustained a hand injury after one of the vehicle’s tires rolled over her hand. Both individuals are receiving medical care, and their conditions remain serious but stable.
Minersville Police confirmed that both pedestrians were in a marked crosswalk when the collision occurred. The incident is under active investigation, and charges against Shimsky are pending.
