Moberly, MO (August 5, 2025) – A 53-year-old man from Huntsville was injured on Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on US 63, approximately one mile south of Moberly in Randolph County.
The crash occurred at around 3:50 PM on August 4, 2025, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Investigators say a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by an 87-year-old man from Bevier attempted to enter the highway and pulled into the path of a southbound 2008 Nissan Rogue.
The Nissan struck the side of the Silverado in a broadside impact, resulting in total damage to both vehicles. Randolph County Ambulance transported the 53-year-old driver of the Rogue to Moberly Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash, which likely helped prevent more serious outcomes.
The driver of the Silverado was not reported injured. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Prather’s Towing. Personnel from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department and Eastern Randolph Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for a full and speedy recovery.
Right-of-Way Collisions in Missouri
Monday’s crash on US 63 near Moberly serves as a reminder of the risks associated with right-of-way violations, particularly when entering major highways from rural side roads or private drives. These types of collisions frequently occur when one driver underestimates the speed or distance of oncoming traffic, resulting in broadside, or “T-bone,” impacts that can cause serious injuries or fatalities.
US 63 is a busy north-south corridor serving the Moberly area and surrounding communities. With limited entry points and fast-moving traffic, merging or crossing this highway requires precision and caution. In this incident, the driver of the Silverado entered the highway and was struck by a southbound Nissan Rogue, which had no time to react.
Missouri crash data confirms that elderly drivers are more likely to be involved in crashes related to right-of-way errors, particularly at uncontrolled or lightly monitored intersections. While age does not determine fault, factors like reduced reaction time, limited visibility, or judgment errors may contribute to such incidents.
The injured driver in this case suffered moderate injuries and was quickly transported for care, an outcome that may have been far worse without seatbelt use. Broadside collisions often place the most impact on the driver’s side, creating heightened risk for serious trauma. Prompt EMS response and modern vehicle safety features likely played a role in reducing the severity of this incident.
For those injured in crashes caused by right-of-way violations, recovery can involve more than medical treatment. Legal concerns, insurance claims, and emotional recovery are also part of the process, making early access to trusted guidance especially important.
