Modesto, CA (August 11, 2025) – Emergency crews responded Monday afternoon to a severe crash on SR-99 Northbound near the Standiford Ave offramp. The collision, reported just after 1:07 p.m., involved a vehicle that veered off the roadway, overturned several times, and came to rest on Sisk Rd, where it caught fire. Witnesses reported seeing the driver lying on the roadway before first responders arrived.
Modesto Fire Department, AMR paramedics, and police officers arrived quickly, extinguishing the flames and providing immediate medical care. One patient was transported to Doctors Medical Center, and another individual was taken to a medical facility in Manteca. The crash also caused damage to approximately 95 feet of chain-link fencing, and traffic backups were reported on the Standiford Ave offramp as vehicles attempted to bypass the scene.
Authorities temporarily closed Sisk Rd between Pelandale Ave and Beckwith Rd while investigators worked and tow crews cleared the wreckage. The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Our thoughts are with those injured in this violent incident, and we wish them a full recovery.
Injury Collisions in California
Collisions involving vehicle rollovers and fires, like Monday’s crash in Modesto, are among the most dangerous roadway incidents. The forces involved in overturning a vehicle often cause significant injuries, while fires present immediate life-threatening hazards for occupants and bystanders. Rural and suburban freeway interchanges, such as the SR-99 and Standiford Ave area, can be particularly risky due to high travel speeds and complex traffic patterns.
Drivers are urged to maintain safe speeds, especially when approaching ramps or curves, and to remain alert for sudden lane changes or hazards. In cases where a vehicle leaves the roadway, the consequences can escalate quickly, as seen with the fire and multiple injuries in this crash.
