Mojave, CA (May 14, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision caused multiple injuries and significant road disruption Tuesday night at the intersection of State Route 202 (SR-202) and Reeves St in Mojave. The crash occurred around 8:29 p.m. and involved a blue Mustang and a red sedan, one of which struck a telecommunications pole, bringing it down across the roadway.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, both vehicles veered off the road, and the crash left SR-202 partially blocked in the westbound lane. One of the vehicles struck a utility pole, leading to a hazardous situation that required coordination with AT&T and Edison field crews.
Emergency responders from Kern County Fire and EMS units arrived on scene and confirmed multiple injuries. At least three individuals were transported to Tehachapi Hospital, and one additional patient was sent to Kern Medical Center. The identities and conditions of the injured have not been released.
Due to the fallen pole and debris, CHP reported a potential for extended closure of SR-202. Road crews were requested to assist with managing the obstruction, and multiple towing companies, including AV Towing and Castro Towing, were dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles.
As of 10:30 p.m., the scene was cleared and lanes were reopened, although authorities noted that management crews may remain on-site for infrastructure repairs.
We extend our best wishes to all those injured in this collision and hope for their full and swift recovery.
Infrastructure Hazards in Traffic Collisions
Crashes involving utility infrastructure—such as the pole strike in this Mojave incident—often result in broader community impacts beyond the collision itself. Downed poles can trigger power outages, block emergency communications, and require extended closures for utility repairs, particularly in remote areas where resources may take longer to arrive.
SR-202, which serves as a key connection between Mojave and Tehachapi, sees moderate traffic through industrial and residential zones. At night, reduced visibility and high travel speeds make this corridor particularly vulnerable to lane departures and side-impact collisions, especially at intersections like Reeves St.
Crashes like these can leave victims with serious injuries ranging from head trauma and orthopedic damage to long-term psychological distress. Beyond emergency care, recovery may involve physical therapy, time away from work, and costly medical follow-up—all while navigating complex insurance and liability questions.
In these situations, prompt medical attention and thorough incident documentation are critical. Victims should also consider working with legal professionals who understand the intricacies of utility-related crash cases, which can involve multiple parties and additional layers of liability.
