Montgomery Co, MD (January 15, 2026) – A major traffic incident involving nine vehicles caused multiple injuries and significant delays early Wednesday morning on eastbound MD-200 near Exit 8. The series of crashes occurred on January 14 and prompted a large-scale emergency response.
According to Montgomery County police, the collisions led to partial lane closures on the eastbound side of the highway as responders redirected traffic into a single lane. The resulting backup stretched for approximately two miles. Westbound traffic also experienced delays due to onlookers slowing down near the crash scene.
Firefighters, medics, and police officers worked quickly to treat injured individuals, gather statements, and control the area. Several vehicles sustained major damage, and one car reportedly caught fire during the incident. Emergency crews remained on-site for an extended period while tow trucks stood by to remove the wrecked vehicles.
As of now, the identities and conditions of the injured have not been released. Investigators are continuing to examine the sequence of crashes and determine contributing factors.
We send our thoughts to those injured and hope for a safe and full recovery.
