Mora, MN (January 9, 2026) – A crash involving two vehicles resulted in injuries to a woman and a young girl on Wednesday night at the intersection of Highway 65 and Highway 23 in Mora, located in Kanabec County. The incident occurred at approximately 8:14 PM, according to Minnesota State Patrol District 2800.
A 2006 Hyundai Sonata was traveling west on Highway 23 when it attempted to turn onto southbound Highway 65. During the turn, the Hyundai collided with a 2020 Chevy Express G3500. Both vehicles sustained damage, and airbag deployment was confirmed in each.
The driver of the Hyundai, 22-year-old Janelle Laura Marschel of South Haven, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Welia Hospital for treatment. An 11-year-old female passenger in one of the vehicles also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the same facility for care. The driver of the Chevy Express, 39-year-old Travis Andrew Fernette Gingras of Pine City, was unharmed.
Authorities from the Kanabec County Sheriff’s Office and medical personnel from Welia Health responded to the scene. Both injured individuals were confirmed to have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
