Naples, FL (April 18, 2025) – A 60-year-old Naples man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash early Friday morning at the intersection of Immokalee Rd and the I-75 exit ramp, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. in Collier County, near the eastbound I-75 off-ramp. According to troopers, a 20-year-old woman from Immokalee was driving east on Immokalee Rd when she ran a red light at the intersection. Her vehicle struck the rear bumper of a pickup truck that was exiting I-75 to turn westbound onto Immokalee Rd.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The young woman involved in the crash suffered minor injuries, according to FHP.
The Florida Highway Patrol is actively investigating the collision to determine if additional factors contributed to the crash, including speed, distraction, or impairment.
We extend our thoughts to both individuals affected, particularly the man recovering from serious injuries, and hope for a full recovery.
Red-Light Crashes and Injury Risks in Florida
Crashes caused by red-light violations remain a significant issue on Florida roads, particularly at intersections connecting major highway ramps and arterial roads, like the one at Immokalee Rd and I-75. These areas are prone to conflict as drivers attempt to merge, turn, or accelerate through complex intersections—often at high speeds or in low-light conditions.
In this incident, the early morning timing suggests that factors such as driver fatigue, reduced visibility, or misjudgment may have played a role. Unfortunately, the consequences of running a red light are often severe. Even a low-angle or bumper-impact crash can cause whiplash, spinal trauma, or internal injuries—especially for drivers in pickup trucks or other vehicles susceptible to roll or rear-end instability.
The intersection of Immokalee Rd and I-75 is a well-traveled connection point in Collier County, often serving both commuters and freight traffic. Improving signal timing, intersection lighting, and signage visibility in such areas is critical to preventing future collisions.
Legal Insight: In cases involving clear right-of-way violations, such as running a red light, the injured party may have strong grounds for compensation through personal injury claims. However, it remains essential to gather medical records, scene documentation, and witness statements to support any legal or insurance proceedings.
Recovery Guidance: Serious injury victims often require hospitalization, extended rehabilitation, and time away from work. Access to legal, medical, and emotional support resources can make a meaningful difference in long-term outcomes.
