Nashville, TN (September 13, 2025) – A devastating crash involving two motorcycles and a sedan claimed the life of one man and left another with life-threatening injuries Friday night on Interstate 24 in South Nashville. The collision occurred near the Haywood Lane exit and drew a large-scale response from Metro Nashville Police and emergency medical crews.
Authorities confirmed that the crash began when a Suzuki motorcycle, operated by 26-year-old Terrell Robins Jr. of Elizabethtown, KY, collided with the rear of a Nissan Versa. The impact caused the Nissan driver to lose control and veer into a second motorcycle—a Honda ridden by a 20-year-old Georgia man.
First responders arrived swiftly and provided emergency care at the scene. Robins was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The second motorcyclist was also taken to VUMC and remains in critical condition. Both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, and police reported no signs of impairment among any of the involved drivers.
The section of I-24 near Haywood Lane was temporarily shut down as investigators reconstructed the scene to determine the sequence of events. Metro Nashville Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Terrell Robins Jr. We also extend heartfelt wishes for strength and healing to the injured motorcyclist as he continues to fight for recovery.
Motorcycle Crashes in Tennessee
This tragic incident on I-24 is a stark reminder of the extreme vulnerability motorcyclists face on high-speed roadways. Even when protective gear is worn and safety guidelines are followed, a single moment of impact can have irreversible consequences. Tennessee’s interstates, including busy stretches like I-24 in South Nashville, are among the most hazardous routes for motorcycle riders due to vehicle congestion, speed variance, and limited reaction space.
In this case, the crash involved three vehicles, including two motorcycles—demonstrating the often-overlooked complexity of multi-vehicle accidents involving smaller vehicles. While investigators reported no signs of impairment and confirmed helmet use, the sheer force of impact still proved fatal. These facts underscore that even law-abiding and safety-conscious riders remain at risk when sharing the road with larger vehicles.
For communities across Tennessee, this incident brings attention to the importance of maintaining safe following distances and remaining alert—especially during evening hours on major interstates. Drivers of all vehicles must stay attentive and be aware of motorcycles, which may be harder to see and are more affected by abrupt lane changes or sudden stops.
If you or someone you love has been involved in a serious motorcycle accident, you may be facing a difficult path—physically, emotionally, and financially. Understanding your legal rights and accessing reliable resources early on can make a significant difference in the recovery process.
