Roadside Safety Risks for Law Enforcement and Motorists
Accidents involving law enforcement officers assisting on highways highlight the dangers of roadside stops. Crashes like the one on I-45 can occur due to distracted driving, failure to move over, or reduced visibility, placing officers and stranded motorists at risk.
Texas law requires drivers to move over or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles, tow trucks, or disabled vehicles on the side of the road. Unfortunately, many drivers fail to adhere to these rules, increasing the chances of serious accidents. Speeding and inattention are common factors in these types of collisions.
Law enforcement personnel face significant risks when conducting traffic stops or assisting disabled vehicles on busy highways. High-speed traffic and driver negligence can lead to devastating injuries.
