Newton Co, MO (September 15, 2025) – A teenage driver sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon along US Highway 60, roughly seven miles east of Granby.
The crash happened at around 12:20 p.m., when a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado slowed to turn and was struck from behind by a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, with both vehicles traveling westbound at the time. The impact caused extensive damage to the Hyundai, which was later towed by Thomas Towing of Monett. The Silverado, which had only minor damage, was driven from the scene.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 18-year-old female driver of the Hyundai, a resident of Stark City, was using a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. She was transported by Newton County Ambulance to Cox Hospital in Monett for treatment. The 61-year-old male driver of the Silverado, also from Stark City, was not injured.
Master Sergeant K. Sanders led the investigation at the scene. Authorities confirmed that the crash occurred as the Silverado slowed to turn and was struck from behind.
We extend our well wishes for a speedy recovery to the young driver hurt in this collision.
Rear-End Crashes in Missouri
Rear-end collisions are among the most common traffic incidents in Missouri, especially on highways like US 60 where speeds are higher and turning vehicles can create sudden slowdowns. In Saturday’s crash near Granby, a turning Chevrolet Silverado was struck from behind by a Hyundai Sonata, injuring the 18-year-old driver and totaling her vehicle.
These accidents often result from following too closely or delayed reaction times. Even minor injuries can disrupt a person’s life, especially for young or inexperienced drivers. Newton County’s mix of rural traffic patterns and limited turning lanes makes it essential for motorists to remain alert and allow extra distance when traveling behind others.
For those involved in crashes like this, understanding recovery options—medical, legal, or otherwise—can help ease the burden in the days and weeks that follow.
Thousands of Missouri drivers are injured each year in rear-end collisions, often during otherwise routine travel. The young driver on US Hwy 60 was fortunate to avoid more severe harm—but even minor injuries deserve attention and support. At Local Accident Reports, we help crash victims access trusted resources, medical referrals, and personalized guidance to navigate recovery.
