Bicycle Accidents in Minnesota
Collisions between bicycles and motor vehicles, like the one on Highway 371 at County Road 13, often result in significant injuries to cyclists due to their vulnerability on the road. According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, dozens of bicyclists are killed or injured each year in traffic crashes statewide, with intersections and turn lanes posing a particularly high risk.
Common causes of bicycle accidents include drivers failing to yield, unsafe lane changes, distracted driving, and reduced visibility. Cyclists are especially at risk during evening hours or in high-traffic areas where motorists may not expect to encounter them in certain lanes.
For injured cyclists, recovery can involve hospital care, rehabilitation, and lost income. Minnesota law allows those harmed by another road user’s negligence to pursue compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, and other damages. Quick medical attention, thorough documentation, and legal guidance can help protect a victim’s rights.
Local safety officials encourage both drivers and cyclists to remain alert, signal intentions clearly, and share the road responsibly to reduce the likelihood of serious accidents.
