Nixa, MO (August 15, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle collision late on Thursday night, August 14, left two people with moderate injuries on US 160, just half a mile north of Nixa in Christian County. The crash, which occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m., involved a failed left-turn maneuver that resulted in a violent head-on impact.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened when an 18-year-old woman from Ozark, driving a 2008 Nissan Altima southbound on US 160, attempted an improper left turn. While making the turn, she pulled directly into the path of a northbound 2004 Honda Accord driven by a 43-year-old man from Springfield. The front-end collision caused total damage to both vehicles, and they were towed from the scene by Kenny’s Wrecker of Nixa.
The teenage driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained moderate injuries but declined emergency transport. She informed officials she would seek her treatment. The driver of the Honda Accord, who was properly restrained, also suffered moderate injuries and was transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for further evaluation.
MSgt. C.A. Stallcup of Troop D conducted the on-scene investigation and was assisted by other patrol units. Authorities have not confirmed whether citations will be issued, but an ongoing investigation into the turn violation and seatbelt non-use is underway.
We extend our hopes for a smooth and full recovery to both individuals involved in this crash.
Left-Turn Collisions in Missouri
Incidents like Thursday night’s crash near Nixa underscore how dangerous left-turn errors can be, especially on high-speed roads like US 160. Left turns across oncoming lanes require precise judgment, clear visibility, and careful attention to timing. When a driver miscalculates or fails to yield, the consequences are often severe.
According to Missouri crash statistics, failure to yield during left turns is one of the top causes of head-on collisions. This type of crash not only increases the likelihood of vehicle destruction but also significantly raises the risk of moderate to severe injuries. In this incident, the unrestrained driver of the Nissan suffered the same injury level as the belted driver of the Honda, highlighting just how dangerous an unprotected impact can be, even at moderate speeds.
Nighttime visibility and fatigue may also have played a role. The crash occurred around 11:00 p.m., when diminished lighting and reduced alertness can impact reaction time for all drivers. Intersections and turn zones on rural highways, even when marked, can become high-risk areas after dark.
The prompt response by EMS and local authorities helped ensure the injured received appropriate care. However, recovery from such crashes often involves more than physical healing. Legal concerns, insurance processing, and vehicle replacement can add layers of stress to an already difficult situation.
For individuals and families navigating the aftermath of a serious left-turn crash, understanding your rights and getting the right resources is essential. Whether it’s injury recovery, insurance disputes, or questions about liability, the right guidance can make a difference.
