Nolan County, TX (February 7, 2025) – An 18-wheeler driver was seriously injured and became trapped inside his vehicle following a collision with a dump truck on Thursday morning in Nolan County. The crash occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Hwy 153 near the intersection of CR 196, according to reports from KTAB/KRBC.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the 18-wheeler was traveling north on Hwy 153 toward Sweetwater when it collided with a dump truck crossing over at the CR 196 intersection. The force of the impact left the 18-wheeler driver trapped inside his cab with serious injuries. It is currently unknown if the driver is breathing, and emergency crews were working to extricate him from the wreckage.

The driver of the dump truck was unharmed in the crash.

In a separate but related incident, a family traveling on Hwy 153 crashed into the back of the 18-wheeler due to extremely foggy conditions that limited visibility. Fortunately, everyone in the family’s vehicle sustained only non-serious injuries.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash. No further information is available at this time.

Our thoughts are with the injured driver and all those affected by this incident. We hope for a swift and full recovery.

The Dangers of Fog and Large Vehicle Collisions in Texas

Foggy conditions, like those reported during this crash on Hwy 153 in Nolan County, significantly increase the risk of serious accidents, particularly when large vehicles such as 18-wheelers and dump trucks are involved. Reduced visibility can make it difficult for drivers to see obstacles, changes in traffic flow, or even entire vehicles until it is too late to react.

In Texas, highways that serve as major transport routes, like Hwy 153, are often the site of collisions involving commercial vehicles. According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), crashes involving large trucks are more likely to result in severe injuries or fatalities due to the size and weight of the vehicles. When combined with poor weather conditions, the risk is even higher.

To reduce the risk of accidents in foggy conditions, drivers should slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. It’s also important to avoid sudden stops or lane changes, as other drivers may not have enough time to react. For truck drivers and operators of large vehicles, adhering to defensive driving techniques and remaining vigilant at intersections is essential to prevent collisions.

For those involved in accidents with large commercial vehicles, seeking immediate medical attention is critical, even if injuries seem minor. Some injuries, such as internal trauma, may not present symptoms right away but can have serious long-term effects. Documenting the accident scene, gathering witness statements, and filing a police report are also essential steps for navigating potential insurance claims or legal proceedings.

Collisions with large trucks often lead to significant financial, emotional, and physical challenges for victims and their families. Understanding your rights and seeking professional assistance can help you manage the aftermath and ensure fair treatment and compensation.
