North Augusta, SC (June 23, 2025) – A tragic construction-related accident claimed the life of a West Virginia man at a Lowe’s location in North Augusta on Sunday afternoon. Emergency crews were called to the store on Knox Ave at approximately 5:04 p.m. following reports of a serious incident involving a worker.
Emergency responders from the North Augusta Department of Public Safety, alongside Aiken County EMS, attempted lifesaving measures on 43-year-old Ray C. Straight. CPR was administered at the scene, but despite their efforts, Mr. Straight was pronounced deceased at 5:50 p.m. by the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted in Newberry to determine the official cause of death. The North Augusta Department of Public Safety and the Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
