North Bend, WA (September 4, 2025) – A deadly crash involving two semi-trucks shut down multiple lanes of westbound Interstate 90 near North Bend on Wednesday afternoon, leaving one truck driver dead and another hospitalized.
Emergency crews from Eastside Fire & Rescue responded to the collision near the on-ramp to Exit 32 just after 1:00 p.m. Reports indicated that one of the semi-trucks had overturned and required extrication efforts. Washington State Patrol confirmed that the crash occurred at milepost 32 on westbound I-90 and involved serious injuries at the scene.
Later updates confirmed that the crash had turned fatal. The driver of a log truck, identified as a male, died at the scene. The driver of the second semi-truck survived the collision and was transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The collision forced the closure of the two right lanes of westbound I-90, as well as the ramp from Exit 32, for several hours. Traffic delays persisted through the afternoon until the scene was cleared and all lanes were reopened by approximately 5:50 p.m.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the collision, and no further details about the drivers have been released.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man who lost his life and wish a full recovery to the injured driver.
Fatal Semi-Truck Collisions in Washington
Wednesday’s crash on I-90 near North Bend serves as a stark reminder of the hazards that come with commercial vehicle collisions. When two fully loaded semi-trucks collide—especially on high-speed corridors like I-90—the consequences are often devastating.
The death of the log truck driver marks another tragic incident in Washington’s ongoing struggle with heavy truck crashes. Semi-truck drivers face unique challenges on the road, from tight delivery schedules to complex braking and maneuvering demands. When crashes happen, particularly on mountainous routes like those near North Bend, the weight and force involved dramatically increase the risk of fatal injuries.
The extended closure of westbound I-90 reflects the severity of both the impact and the cleanup required. Incidents involving cargo loads, fuel leaks, and overturned vehicles require specialized crews and often lead to prolonged disruptions. These crashes can also trigger ripple effects across local logistics and commuter travel.
Truck accidents can happen for a variety of reasons — driver fatigue, mechanical failure, shifting loads, poor weather, or sudden braking. Ongoing investigations by Washington State Patrol will be crucial in determining exactly what went wrong near Exit 32. Regardless of the cause, the loss of life calls attention to the need for continued emphasis on highway safety, especially for commercial drivers operating massive vehicles at high speeds.
For families affected by fatal trucking accidents, the aftermath can feel overwhelming. In addition to the emotional devastation, there are often complicated insurance claims, loss of income, and legal matters to navigate.
If your family has suffered due to a commercial truck crash, it’s important to seek guidance and support as early as possible.
