North Las Vegas, NV (May 30, 2025) – A tragic collision involving a construction vehicle and an SUV claimed the life of a man Wednesday afternoon in North Las Vegas.
Medics and fire crews worked to assist at the scene after a fatal crash occurred just before 2:00 p.m. in the area of Cheyenne Ave and Slit Canyon St, near Decatur Blvd. Officers with the North Las Vegas Police Department arrived to find the SUV driver deceased inside the vehicle, which had come to a stop against the perimeter fence of the North Las Vegas Airport.
According to preliminary findings, the SUV was traveling westbound on Cheyenne Ave when a construction vehicle entered its lane, colliding with it. The force of the impact caused the SUV to veer across the median, cross all eastbound lanes, and eventually come to rest at the airport fence.
Authorities shut down Cheyenne Ave in both directions between Decatur Blvd and Tonto St for several hours to conduct an on-site investigation and clear the wreckage. Investigators are actively working to determine whether speed or driver impairment played a role in the crash.
Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased individual during this heartbreaking time.
Construction Zone Safety and Fatal Crashes in Nevada
Crashes involving construction vehicles often result in severe outcomes due to the size and weight of the equipment involved. In this case, the impact tragically took a life and highlights the dangers present on Nevada roadways where construction work is taking place or equipment enters traffic lanes.
North Las Vegas and other urban areas across Clark County frequently see active development, including construction near major corridors like Cheyenne Ave. Drivers and work crews alike must navigate the tight interplay between ongoing development and daily traffic, which increases the risk of catastrophic incidents.
According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, construction zone collisions have been on the rise in recent years, with many resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. Such crashes are often caused by limited visibility, sudden lane changes, or vehicles unexpectedly entering active lanes of traffic.
After fatal accidents like this, investigators work to identify contributing factors such as speed, distraction, or impairment. The presence of a construction vehicle in an active travel lane will likely be a key point in the ongoing analysis.
For families impacted by fatal accidents, navigating the aftermath can be emotionally and legally challenging. In these situations, legal consultation may be essential for understanding rights, determining liability, and pursuing compensation for wrongful death or other related claims.
