Oakland, CA (September 17, 2025) – A collision involving two sedans caused lane closures and injuries Tuesday night on northbound Interstate 880 beneath the 23rd Avenue overpass. The crash, which occurred around 9:13 p.m., involved a black Nissan and a gray Toyota—both vehicles sustaining major front and rear-end damage, according to California Highway Patrol communications.
One to three lanes were initially blocked due to the wreck, which left one of the sedans disabled and obstructing traffic. Alco Fire units and emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after reports of a vehicle blocking the roadway were received via an iPhone crash alert. Officials later confirmed that at least one person inside the vehicles suffered minor injuries.
Tow services were called to relocate both vehicles, and by 10:06 p.m., crews had cleared the scene, moving the damaged cars to East 12th Street. Despite the severity of the impact, injuries were described as minor. Authorities have not released the names of those involved.
Investigators are reviewing traffic camera footage and witness statements to determine what led to the crash, which may have involved a vehicle striking an existing hazard already in the roadway.
Our thoughts go out to those affected by this crash, and we wish the injured a swift recovery.
