Oceanside, CA (January 29, 2026) – A 73-year-old man was assessed for injuries Tuesday afternoon following a rear-end collision that occurred on Vista Way in Oceanside, according to emergency radio communications.
The incident was reported around 3:22 p.m. on January 28. The man, who was driving at highway speeds, stated he was rear-ended by another vehicle traveling at an unknown speed. Despite the impact, the driver was able to safely pull over and exit his vehicle without assistance.
Emergency responders from Engine 232 evaluated the man at the scene. He complained of aching lower back pain, rated at 8 out of 10, but exhibited no signs of head, neck, or neurological injury. He was alert, breathing normally, and showed no signs of intoxication. Blood pressure readings were elevated, and the patient disclosed a history of hypertension for which he is scheduled to see a doctor next week.
The patient declined ambulance transport after being informed of the risks and signed an AMA (Against Medical Advice) form. He chose to remain at the scene with California Highway Patrol officers and intended to follow up with his physician.
The second individual involved in the incident was also being evaluated, though further details were not released.
We’re relieved the driver did not sustain life-threatening injuries and hope he receives proper care in the coming days.
