Oroville, CA (August 18, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision caused injuries early Monday morning on State Route 70 near Ophir Rd, just inside the northbound interchange, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash was first reported around 5:50 a.m. and involved a gray Dodge Ram pickup truck and a second unidentified vehicle. Shortly after the initial impact, the Dodge Ram was reportedly struck again by a silver pickup truck that pulled over following the collision. One of the vehicles was smoking at the scene, and CHP confirmed the Dodge was still occupied at the time of the secondary impact.
Emergency personnel responded quickly and determined that at least one party sustained minor injuries. Tow services were requested for multiple vehicles, including both trucks, with King Towing and ABC Nicks arriving on-site shortly after.
Initially, one lane was opened to ease traffic congestion, and by 6:50 a.m., all lanes had been reopened. The incident prompted temporary delays as crews worked to remove the disabled vehicles and clear the roadway.
The collision remains under investigation. Authorities have not disclosed the exact cause or whether citations will be issued.
We hope for a quick recovery for all individuals affected in this incident.
Injury Crashes on SR-70 in Butte County
SR-70 serves as a major corridor through Butte County and often experiences early morning congestion due to commuter traffic and regional transport routes. Accidents like Monday’s near Ophir Rd highlight the risks associated with closely spaced vehicles, limited visibility at sunrise, and high-speed travel along undivided sections of highway.
Rear-end collisions and secondary impacts are common on this stretch of SR-70, particularly when disabled vehicles remain in active lanes. Even low-speed impacts can lead to whiplash, bruising, or other soft-tissue injuries that may require medical attention.
In the wake of such crashes, it’s important for those involved to monitor symptoms, seek appropriate care, and document all vehicle damage and injuries—even when injuries appear minor. Early reporting can help ensure full recovery and prevent complications in future insurance or legal matters.
