Parkersburg, WV (April 16, 2025) – A woman was hospitalized following a two-vehicle collision Tuesday evening at the intersection of Route 47 and Mound Street in Parkersburg, according to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 5:01 p.m. on April 15. Authorities say Brittney Lamar of Walker was driving a Chevrolet Trax and was in the process of exiting I-77 southbound to merge onto Route 47. As she entered the intersection, her vehicle was struck by a Subaru Ascent driven by Dylan Reeder of Parkersburg.
Lamar sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to Camden Clark Medical Center for treatment. No other injuries were reported at the scene. Both vehicles sustained damage, though the extent has not been disclosed.
Deputies with the Wood County Sheriff’s Office responded promptly and have confirmed that the incident remains under investigation. Factors such as intersection control, visibility, and vehicle speed are being reviewed to determine the cause of the crash.
We send our best wishes to Brittney Lamar for a full and swift recovery.
Intersection Crashes and Merging Risks in West Virginia
Crashes at intersections where highway exits merge with local roadways—like the junction of I-77 and Route 47—are often the result of timing errors, limited visibility, or misjudged right-of-way. These transitional zones are high-risk areas where both highway and local traffic converge, requiring heightened attentiveness from all drivers.
While the specific cause of this crash is still under investigation, incidents like this emphasize the need for cautious merging practices and proper yielding to through traffic. Merging at busy intersections can be especially dangerous when traffic is moving at high speeds or when road design makes it difficult to see approaching vehicles.
Victims of such crashes often deal with more than physical injuries—they may face challenges with insurance claims, vehicle repairs, and time away from work or family responsibilities. Accessing trusted local support services, from medical providers to legal resources, can make a crucial difference in recovery.
