Pettis County, MO (August 22, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle collision occurred Thursday afternoon at the intersection of MO-E and Dove Rd, leaving two women injured—one seriously—and both vehicles totaled. The crash took place around 12:35 p.m. and is being investigated by MSGT. M. D. DeGraffenreid of Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A, with assistance from CPL. A. S. Craig and the Pettis County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the official crash report, the collision happened when a 2003 Subaru Impreza, driven by a 27-year-old woman from Sedalia, failed to stop at a posted stop sign while traveling eastbound on Dove Rd. Her vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a southbound 2012 Chevrolet Captiva, driven by a 19-year-old woman from Windsor.
Both vehicles sustained total damage and were removed from the scene by Don’s Towing.
Emergency crews arrived quickly, and both female drivers were transported from the scene by Pettis County Ambulance. The 19-year-old driver of the Captiva suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Bothwell Hospital. The 27-year-old Subaru driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to Western Missouri Medical Center. A 31-year-old male passenger from Green Ridge, riding in the Subaru, sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Authorities have not announced whether charges or citations will be issued.
Our thoughts are with all three individuals as they recover, particularly the seriously injured driver.
Intersection Collisions and Right-of-Way Safety in Missouri
Thursday’s crash in Pettis County underscores a persistent risk on rural Missouri roads: failure to yield at stop signs. Collisions caused by missed or disregarded stop signs often result in side-impact crashes, which tend to be more severe due to limited protection on the sides of most vehicles.
The intersection at MO-E and Dove Rd, like many rural junctions, requires drivers to rely on visual scanning and proper judgment. These locations are often unmarked by traffic signals, leaving full responsibility for yielding to the drivers. In this incident, the eastbound vehicle’s failure to stop led directly to a broadside impact—one of the most dangerous crash types, especially at open-speed rural intersections.
Accidents like this also highlight the real and ongoing dangers facing young drivers and passengers in Missouri. While both women were wearing seat belts—reducing the potential for more catastrophic outcomes—the severity of their injuries demonstrates that even proper safety precautions cannot fully protect against high-impact collisions.
Victims of serious crashes often require extended medical treatment, rehabilitation, and legal assistance to navigate insurance claims and recovery challenges. In rural counties like Pettis, timely access to nearby hospitals and trauma centers can be crucial to positive outcomes.
This crash serves as a stark reminder for all drivers to remain vigilant at stop-controlled intersections and to always approach rural roads with heightened caution.
