Phoenix, AZ (July 1, 2025) – A construction worker was hospitalized in serious condition Monday after being injured while working at the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) construction site in north Phoenix, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the semiconductor facility near Interstate 17 and Loop 303, where they provided emergency care before transporting the injured worker to a local hospital. Officials confirmed the individual suffered broken bones as a result of the accident.
A spokesperson for TSMC issued a statement expressing concern and support, saying, “We wish the injured worker a full and fast recovery. TSMC’s top priority is the safety and welfare of everyone who works on our site. We are in contact with our construction contractors and looking into this situation.”
The incident is currently under review, and no additional details regarding how the injuries occurred have been released.
This is not the first serious injury reported at the TSMC site. In 2024, a 41-year-old worker died after being struck by a blunt object while inspecting a tank—an incident that raised broader safety concerns across the expansive semiconductor project.
Construction Site Safety Concerns in Phoenix
Large-scale construction projects like the TSMC semiconductor facility carry significant safety risks due to the volume of heavy machinery, elevated work zones, and time-sensitive operations. Monday’s incident underscores the physical dangers workers face, even amid growing investments in safety protocols and oversight.
Injuries involving broken bones can lead to extended recovery times, lost wages, and long-term physical impact. For construction workers and their families, these events often carry both financial and emotional burdens—particularly when safety policies or procedures are under scrutiny.
Given the size and visibility of the TSMC project, each workplace accident highlights the need for continuous safety evaluations and transparent communication between contractors, workers, and developers.
