Phoenix, AZ (January 2, 2025) – A deadly car crash near 16th St and Van Buren St on New Year’s Day is under investigation by the Phoenix Police Department. The crash occurred at approximately 1:15 PM on January 1 and tragically claimed the life of 38-year-old Jesus Tapia-Serrano.
According to Sgt. Brian Bower of the Phoenix Police, Tapia-Serrano was driving west on Van Buren St when he lost control of his vehicle. Witnesses reported seeing the car veer into oncoming traffic before crashing into a pole on the south side of Van Buren St. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn, landing on its roof.
Emergency responders transported Tapia-Serrano to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. No other injuries or vehicles were reported as involved in the crash. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
