Phoenix, AZ (February 1, 2026) – A fatal hit-and-run accident occurred Friday evening in central Phoenix, leaving one man dead and police searching for the driver of a van that fled the scene.
The incident happened on January 31 at approximately 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of 23rd Avenue and Grand Avenue. According to the Phoenix Police Department, emergency crews were dispatched to the area after reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they found a man in critical condition lying in the roadway. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries. His identity has not yet been released pending family notification.
Investigators say the victim was lying in the road when he was struck by a dark-colored van traveling eastbound on Grand Avenue. The driver of the van did not stop and fled the scene before officers arrived. The make and model of the vehicle are still unknown.
Authorities continue to investigate the fatal incident and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
