Pike County, MO (August 18, 2025) – Two individuals were injured in a two-vehicle crash late Saturday morning at the intersection of Route D and Route WW in Pike County. The incident occurred around 11:39 a.m. on August 16 and involved a rollover collision resulting from a failure to stop at a stop sign.
Emergency responders from the Pike County Memorial Ambulance District arrived quickly at the scene, where a 2021 Buick Enclave, driven by an 82-year-old man from Eminence, failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling westbound on Route WW. The Buick entered the intersection and struck the left side of a southbound 2019 Toyota 4Runner driven by a 43-year-old woman from Clarksville.
Following the impact, the Toyota 4Runner veered off the roadway and overturned. Inside the vehicle were the driver and a 7-year-old girl, both of whom were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Both sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis for treatment.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were removed from the scene by Heartland Towing. Authorities from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Pike County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
We extend our heartfelt wishes for a full and swift recovery to the injured individuals, especially the young child involved.
Child-Involved Collisions in Missouri
Car accidents that involve children are especially concerning, not only because of their vulnerability but also due to the lasting physical and emotional impacts these events can have. Saturday’s crash in Pike County, which resulted from a failure to obey a stop sign, reinforces how quickly a routine drive can turn dangerous—even in broad daylight on rural routes.
In this case, the 7-year-old child and her mother were properly restrained, a critical factor in minimizing the severity of their injuries. Missouri law requires child passenger restraints appropriate to age and size, and this crash serves as a powerful example of why those laws matter. Had seatbelts not been used, the outcome could have been far worse.
Crashes caused by failure to yield or stop at traffic control devices are among the leading causes of injury at rural intersections across Missouri. Older drivers may experience delayed response times, vision challenges, or difficulty navigating unfamiliar roads, all of which can contribute to intersection-related crashes like this one at Route D and Route WW.
While the injuries in this case were minor, the overturning of the vehicle demonstrates the force of the impact and how quickly control can be lost even at seemingly moderate speeds. Rollover incidents dramatically increase the risk of injury and are particularly dangerous for young passengers.
It’s essential that families involved in such crashes—especially those with injured children—receive prompt medical evaluation, legal guidance, and emotional support.
