Plant City, FL (January 2, 2025) – A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) chase early Thursday morning ended with both the suspect vehicle and a patrol car going airborne before crashing near McIntosh Rd, close to Interstate 4. The dramatic incident occurred around 2:41 AM, according to authorities.
The chase began when a trooper attempted to stop a speeding Kia Optima on Interstate 4 near McIntosh Rd. The driver of the Kia refused to stop, initiating a high-speed pursuit that led onto an exit ramp. Both vehicles failed to navigate a curve, struck a concrete construction barrier, and went airborne, ultimately crashing into a ditch on the east side of McIntosh Rd.
After the crash, multiple occupants of the Kia fled the scene on foot in different directions. The trooper was unable to apprehend the suspects. The trooper sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
