Platte County, MO (May 14, 2025) – A six-vehicle crash on westbound MO 152 just east of NE Shoal Creek Parkway resulted in injuries to three children on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m. on May 12 and was investigated by Trooper M.J. Saladrigas of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, with assistance from local law enforcement.
According to the crash report, the collision began when a 2020 Jeep Wrangler (Vehicle 1), driven by a 37-year-old woman from Kansas City, struck the rear of a 2025 Buick Envista (Vehicle 2). The chain reaction continued as:
- The Buick was pushed forward into a 2016 Toyota Corolla (Vehicle 3).
- The Jeep’s driver’s side then struck the passenger side of a 2011 Toyota Prius (Vehicle 4).
- The Jeep also rear-ended a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica (Vehicle 5).
- The Pacifica was then pushed into the rear of a 2011 Toyota Prius (Vehicle 6).
All vehicles were traveling westbound at the time of the crash. The Corolla and the Jeep were towed from the scene due to moderate damage, while the remaining vehicles were driven away.
Three juvenile boys—ages 3 and two 4-year-olds—were in the Chrysler Pacifica and sustained minor injuries. All three were properly restrained and transported by Kansas City Fire Department to Children’s Mercy Hospital for further evaluation. No adults involved in the crash reported injuries.
Chain-Reaction Collisions on Missouri Highways
This six-vehicle collision underscores the dangers of congested highway traffic and the risks associated with following too closely or sudden braking. Chain-reaction crashes on high-speed corridors like MO 152 in Platte County often result in multiple vehicle impacts and heightened injury risk—especially for child passengers.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, multi-vehicle rear-end collisions are among the most frequent crashes in metropolitan traffic zones. The domino effect seen in this crash demonstrates how one initial impact can quickly involve numerous drivers—leading to chaos on the roadway and requiring coordinated emergency response.
While all of the injured children were reported to be properly restrained—likely preventing more severe outcomes—the incident highlights the importance of maintaining safe following distances and staying alert, particularly in fast-moving or slowing traffic patterns.
For families impacted by crashes involving children, even minor injuries often lead to additional stress, medical follow-ups, and emotional trauma.
