Plattsburgh, NY (September 22, 2025) – A tragic collision in downtown Plattsburgh claimed the life of a 21-year-old motorcyclist Friday evening. The fatal crash occurred around 8:20 p.m., when a 2006 Honda motorcycle collided with the side of a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado at an intersection in the city’s downtown core.
The Plattsburgh Police Department identified the motorcyclist as Ronnie Gamble III. According to officials, Gamble was traveling westbound at an undetermined speed when his motorcycle struck the passenger side of the northbound pickup truck. Emergency medical personnel transported Gamble to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH), where he was later pronounced dead after life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.
The driver of the Silverado remained at the scene, cooperated with law enforcement, and did not report any injuries. No charges have been filed at this time.
Investigators are continuing to examine the crash, including potential contributing factors such as speed, visibility, and intersection design. Traffic in the downtown area was diverted for several hours Friday night while police conducted their on-site investigation.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ronnie Gamble III during this incredibly difficult time.
Motorcycle Accidents in New York
Motorcycle collisions—especially those involving passenger vehicles—are frequently among the most severe and deadly types of roadway incidents in New York. The lack of protective barriers leaves riders extremely vulnerable to impact forces, and even relatively low-speed crashes can result in fatal injuries.
In this case, the crash occurred at a downtown intersection, where visibility challenges, cross traffic, and timing of signals can all play a role in accident dynamics. Investigators have not yet determined Gamble’s speed at the time of impact, but collisions at night often carry increased risk due to reduced visibility and narrower reaction windows for both drivers and riders.
Motorcyclists in New York face unique risks and must navigate busy intersections alongside much larger vehicles. Defensive riding, visible gear, and rider awareness are crucial safety measures—but they cannot prevent all incidents, especially when vehicle operators fail to detect oncoming motorcycles.
For families who lose loved ones in fatal crashes, the emotional loss is often accompanied by difficult legal and financial realities. In fatal accident cases, surviving family members may be entitled to pursue wrongful death claims, which can provide compensation for funeral expenses, medical bills, and the loss of companionship and support. Timely investigation, preservation of evidence, and legal guidance are all vital in navigating such claims.
Communities like Plattsburgh can benefit from intersection improvements, enhanced lighting, and increased driver education aimed at motorcycle awareness. Still, until such changes are widespread, riders remain at high risk during every trip.
